Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has offered a candid assessment of the club's current situation, acknowledging that while there are "more problems than solutions," positive changes are occurring behind the scenes at Old Trafford.
Speaking ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Everton, Amorim provided insight into the team's development, particularly highlighting improvements in training sessions. The Portuguese manager described a noticeable shift in the training ground atmosphere, where players are becoming more vocal and engaged.
"What I feel is that sometimes I don't feel improvement in the team and then we have some games when it is more difficult, but you feel that we can play, we can create situations," Amorim explained. He emphasized the importance of consistency while noting the clear presence of ongoing challenges within the squad.
The manager's observations about training sessions were particularly revealing. "Even the sound of the training is different - when we are making an exercise, you feel the sound. People are talking, asking for the ball and giving directions. You can feel it in the environment, we are changing," Amorim stated, highlighting the gradual transformation in team dynamics.
However, the statistics paint a sobering picture of Amorim's tenure thus far. Since taking charge in November, he has managed just nine wins from 21 games, with only four Premier League victories in 14 attempts. The team's struggles to adapt to his tactical approach have been evident, compounded by internal issues such as the departure of Marcus Rashford following concerns about his training ground application.
The situation at Manchester United has become increasingly precarious, with the team currently languishing in 15th place in the Premier League. Without significant improvement, the club faces the prospect of their worst league finish since their relegation season in 1974. While Amorim emphasizes the need for patience in this rebuilding phase, acknowledging that fair judgment should wait until after a full pre-season and summer transfer window, the pressure for immediate results remains intense.
Despite these challenges, Amorim maintains that the foundations for improvement are being laid, even if the progress isn't always visible on match days. The manager's focus on developing team relationships and understanding his preferred style of play suggests a long-term vision for the club's recovery, though immediate results will likely continue to dominate discussions around his tenure.
