Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has dismissed ongoing speculation about Vinícius Júnior's potential move to Saudi Arabia, expressing confidence in the Brazilian star's commitment to the club. The 24-year-old forward has been the subject of persistent rumors linking him to a lucrative transfer to the Saudi Pro League, with reports suggesting he could become the world's highest-paid footballer.
"Yes, I'm tired of this topic but I'm not worried," Ancelotti stated on Friday. "I see him happy and we are happy with him. There's nothing more to add with respect to what I said a week ago. It's not a topic that we discuss here, he doesn't discuss it."
The speculation intensified following reports that Vinícius' representatives have communicated their client's financial expectations to Real Madrid for extending his stay beyond 2027. Sources told ESPN that the Brazilian international is seeking a salary package exceeding that of future teammate Kylian Mbappé, who is set to become the club's highest-paid player.
Despite the ongoing negotiations, Vinícius himself has expressed optimism about reaching an agreement with Madrid. Following Tuesday's impressive 3-2 Champions League victory at Manchester City, where he earned Player of the Match honors with two assists and five key passes, the forward indicated his desire to continue his journey with the Spanish giants.
"All I can tell you is what I see here, he is happy, eager to do things well and make history with the club," Ancelotti emphasized. "I see the same Vinícius as always, very motivated especially after what he did in the game against City because he had a lot of pressure heading into that game and he withstood that pressure by making a difference."
The Brazilian's achievements at Real Madrid are substantial, having contributed to two Champions League titles and three LaLiga crowns. His recent runner-up finish in the 2024 Ballon d'Or, behind Manchester City's Rodri, further underscores his significance to the club.
Addressing the broader context of Saudi Arabian football's growing influence, Ancelotti acknowledged the potential future impact of the Saudi Pro League. "It shouldn't surprise us that a country wants to invest in football," he remarked. "Saudi Arabia has the right to prepare for the 2034 World Cup. It's a market that may be less competitive now than in Europe but in the future it could be as competitive as Europe."
The Italian manager, whose contract with Madrid runs until 2026, even left the door open for his own potential future in Saudi football, stating, "Why not, if I want to continue in football. The question is whether I want to continue [coaching] after I leave Real Madrid."
For now, Real Madrid's focus remains on maintaining their position at the top of LaLiga, with an upcoming match against Osasuna before the crucial Champions League return leg against Manchester City. "We are very motivated," Ancelotti concluded. "Our team understands very well when the moment is crucial and when they have to give 100%."
