Augsburg's German goalkeeper Finn Dahmen has revealed he would consider representing England at international level. The 26-year-old, who has represented Germany from under-15 to under-21 level, qualifies for England through his English mother.
"I feel a sense of belonging to both countries," Dahmen told Sky Deutschland. "I don't want to rule anything out and can imagine both. I would consider it."
Dahmen is currently enjoying impressive form in the Bundesliga, having kept six consecutive clean sheets for Augsburg. His performances have helped the club reach a surprising 9th position in the table, with Jess Thorup's side pushing for European qualification next season.
Despite his strong showings, Dahmen is currently on standby for Julian Nagelsmann's senior German squad ahead of their Nations League fixtures against Italy. He finds himself behind Oliver Baumann, Stefan Ortega and Alexander Nubel in Germany's goalkeeping hierarchy, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen sidelined through injury.
"It's my dream to become a national player one day," Dahmen said, referring to the possibility of a German call-up. "It's always been my dream. But it's not that time yet. I haven't been invited, so I'm enjoying the international break."
Interestingly, Dahmen has a previous connection with current England coach Thomas Tuchel. The goalkeeper made his professional debut for Mainz in 2018, having joined the club as a 10-year-old. He was an academy prospect during Tuchel's tenure as Mainz head coach from 2009 to 2014.
According to Sky, Tuchel has not yet approached Dahmen regarding a potential England call-up. The German coach named four goalkeepers in his first England squad: Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale, Dean Henderson, and James Trafford.
Born in Wiesbaden, west Germany, Dahmen's dual eligibility offers him an interesting international pathway should his German ambitions not materialize as hoped.
