Real Betis' sporting director has expressed excitement over the arrival of Manchester United's Antony, who joins the Spanish club on loan following a challenging spell at Old Trafford where he struggled to live up to his £86 million ($107m) price tag.
The Brazilian winger, who managed just 17 goal contributions in 96 appearances for United, is looking to revitalize his career in La Liga. The 24-year-old's move comes as Betis, currently ninth in the league standings, push for European qualification, sitting just two points behind sixth-placed Mallorca and a potential Conference League spot.
Speaking to Marca, Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo shared his optimism about the signing: "Antony's arrival is exciting. From the sporting management and the coaching staff, we understood that we had to improve the second line of attack. Antony is already with us, but we must not individualise any player. For the team to achieve its objectives, both Antony and the rest of the players will have to take a step forward and demonstrate on a daily basis, from the maximum involvement and talent, to meet the objective one more year."
The former United winger could potentially make his debut for Real Betis as soon as this Sunday when they face Athletic Club, though his inclusion in the squad remains uncertain. This move represents a fresh start for Antony, who arrives in Spain looking to rebuild his reputation after failing to meet expectations in the Premier League following his high-profile transfer from Ajax to Manchester United.
