Chelsea midfielder Renato Veiga is on the verge of joining Juventus on a loan deal until the summer, with the Italian giants agreeing to pay a €5 million fee for his services. The agreement, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, could see an additional €1 million in performance-based bonuses, though notably excludes any purchase option.
The move comes after Chelsea expressed openness to loaning out Veiga, provided specific conditions regarding playing time and financial terms were satisfied. While both Marseille and Borussia Dortmund had shown interest in acquiring the player's services, it was Juventus who successfully met Chelsea's requirements to secure his move to Turin.
Juventus's pursuit of Veiga appears strategically timed, as the club grapples with significant defensive challenges. The team has been dealt severe blows with long-term ACL injuries to both centre-back Bremer and left-back Juan Cabal. The situation is further complicated by captain Danilo's recent absence from matchday squads, with head coach Thiago Motta hinting at a possible departure for the veteran defender.
The loan move could prove beneficial for Veiga, who has found regular playing time hard to come by at Chelsea this season. Despite making 18 appearances for the London club, his Premier League involvement has been limited to just one start. The majority of his impact has been felt in the Conference League, where he featured in the starting lineup for all eight matches and found the net in victories against both Astana and Gent.
For Juventus, Veiga's versatility could prove invaluable as they look to address their immediate defensive concerns. The Portuguese player will return to Chelsea following his stint in Serie A, ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
