Chelsea have made another significant move in the transfer market, completing the double signing of talented Sporting midfielders Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo. The Portuguese club announced that the combined fee for both players amounts to approximately £62.4 million ($79.2 million).
Quenda, a promising 17-year-old winger, will join the Blues for a fee of up to £44 million according to Sporting's website. However, Chelsea fans will need to be patient as the teenager will remain in Lisbon until the end of the 2025-26 season. Despite his young age, Quenda has already made his mark at the highest level, breaking into Sporting's first team this season and making his Champions League debut in September.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old defensive midfielder Dario Essugo will make his move to Stamford Bridge in the summer following his current loan spell at Spanish side Las Palmas. Sporting stated that his transfer fee is £18.4 million. While Essugo has impressed during his time in Spain, his disciplinary record has raised some concerns, having received two red cards in his past four matches.
Unlike Quenda, Chelsea supporters might get to see Essugo in action sooner, as he could potentially join Enzo Maresca's side for the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup this summer in the United States.
These acquisitions continue Chelsea's strategy of investing in young talent. The Portuguese pair join two other 17-year-olds already confirmed to move to Chelsea this summer: Brazilian Estevao Willian and Ecuadorian Kendry Paez.
This latest investment further demonstrates Chelsea's commitment to building for the future by securing some of the most promising young players in world football under the current ownership.
