Plymouth Argyle's new manager Miron Muslic has made an immediate impact with an inspirational speech that has captured the hearts of football fans worldwide, following the club's stunning FA Cup victory over Premier League side Brentford.
Muslic, who signed a three-and-a-half-year contract to replace the dismissed Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney, inherited a team sitting at the bottom of the Championship. However, his tenure began with an unexpected bang as Plymouth secured a 1-0 victory against Brentford in the FA Cup third round under caretaker manager Kevin Nancekivell.
In a passionate post-match address that has since gone viral, Muslic delivered a powerful message that began with a tribute to Nancekivell: "Your courage, your commitment, your selflessness is an inspiration. There are moments in life and moments on the football pitch where the heat is on, the pressure is on and people just disappear, run away and hide, other people like Nance step up. That's courage, balls."
The Austrian manager's raw emotion was evident as he continued, "When I saw the celebrations after the game, it was pure, it was from the heart. Not fake, pure and from the heart. Goosebumps all over my body!"
Addressing the challenges ahead, Muslic acknowledged the team's recent struggles while rallying his players: "I know it has been difficult for you over the last weeks, suffering, struggling. It's part of our job. You are professional football players, it's not easy being a professional football player."
In a particularly moving segment, he spoke about the pressures of professional football: "We have to perform day in, day out, every single weekend, and we are an object. We don't have a private life, they (outsiders) can do what they want with us. They can destroy us every single day and every single game, that's why it's difficult to be a professional football player. That's why we are here, because it's hard."
Despite Plymouth's precarious position in the Championship, Muslic remains optimistic about the team's future. With only three points separating them from safety, the new manager's passionate leadership could prove crucial as they prepare for their next challenge against Oxford United.
"Nothing in the next weeks will be easy for us, no problem!" Muslic declared. "Let's face this challenge in front of us with commitment, with heart, with togetherness, because you impressed me against Brentford."
