The Hollywood dynamic duo behind Wrexham's remarkable transformation, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have expanded their football empire by joining forces with other A-list investors to acquire Colombian club La Equidad in a deal worth £24.5 million ($30 million).
The acquisition, which was initially revealed in December 2024, has now been finalized with the Tylis-Porter Group securing a 99 percent stake in the South American outfit. The investment group includes an impressive roster of celebrities and sports figures, including actress Eva Longoria, model Kate Upton, and sports stars Justin Verlander, Odell Beckham Jr, and former Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil.
Sam Porter, a former Swansea director working alongside real estate mogul Al Tylis, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, "I am pleased to confirm that Al Tylis, our investment partners, and I have successfully acquired Club Deportivo La Equidad. This is an incredible opportunity to enhance the club's growth in every aspect and to become an integral part of Colombian football."
Porter further emphasized the significance of their high-profile investment partners, adding, "We are privileged to collaborate with an outstanding group of investors, including Eva Longoria, Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney, and Shawn Marion, who have been instrumental in our project at Club Necaxa in Mexico. Together, we are committed to elevating the club to its highest potential."
This isn't the first venture into Latin American football for Reynolds and McElhenney, who have already invested in Mexican club Necaxa. Following the success of their Wrexham documentary series, a similar production is being planned for Necaxa, featuring "Desperate Housewives" star Longoria.
The ambitious co-owners have also diversified their sporting portfolio beyond football, holding a 24% equity stake in the Alpine Racing Formula 1 team. Meanwhile, their primary focus remains on Wrexham, where they continue to seek additional investment as they pursue their ultimate goal of guiding the Red Dragons to the Premier League.
