Harry Kane's stellar performance in Bayern Munich's 2-1 victory over Freiburg has drawn high praise from teammate Joshua Kimmich and manager Vincent Kompany, who highlighted the England captain's exceptional work rate and defensive contributions.
Kane, who opened the scoring early in the match, set the tone for Bayern's triumph before Kim Min-Jae doubled their lead. Though Matthias Ginter's late goal for Freiburg sparked hopes of a comeback, the home side held on for the win.
The English striker's influence extended far beyond his goalscoring prowess. Statistics reveal Kane's remarkable defensive effort, covering 11.5 kilometers, executing 25 sprints, and engaging in nine tackles throughout the match. His commitment to the defensive cause was evident when he received a yellow card in the 63rd minute for a tactical foul on Lucas Holer.
Kimmich was particularly impressed with Kane's all-around performance, especially given recent challenges. "When I see what kind of game Harry played, after he's had a few problems in the last few weeks, he was in our box, defending everything. He threw himself into it, got a yellow card, was on the ground, fought, ran back. That was an outstanding game from him," Kimmich told Sky after the match.
The midfielder emphasized that Kane's value to the team transcends his goalscoring abilities: "Regardless of the goal, he is often judged by goals, but what he did for the team is exactly what we need. It's not always about scoring a hat trick to win, but also about standing together as a team and pulling it off."
Bayern's head coach Kompany shared similar sentiments, praising Kane's character and work ethic. "Harry keeps working and always stays calm," Kompany remarked on Sky Germany. "I can pick out five or six scenes where he defends deep and also plays a very important role in terms of character. I think it's clear that he will give everything to be successful this year."
With 33 goal contributions in 25 matches this season, Kane's impressive form shows no signs of slowing down. The striker will look to continue his scoring streak as Bayern prepare for their upcoming Champions League fixture against Slovan Bratislava, where they aim to secure at least a playoff spot.
