LAFC midfielder Mateusz Bogusz is reportedly on the verge of completing a significant transfer to Liga MX powerhouse Cruz Azul, with both clubs having reached an agreement on a $9 million fee.
The Polish international, who earned his first cap with the national team in 2024, has been a standout performer for LAFC, contributing an impressive 15 goals and seven assists during the 2024 season. The potential transfer represents a substantial return on investment for the MLS side, who acquired Bogusz for just over $1 million in 2023.
This move would mark Cruz Azul's latest high-profile acquisition from Major League Soccer, continuing their aggressive recruitment strategy in the North American market. The Mexican club has already secured former LAFC defender Omar Campos this January for over $4 million and completed a $2 million deal for San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper Emi Ochoa. Last summer, they made waves by signing former Atlanta United striker Giorgos Giakoumakis in a $10 million deal.
Should the transfer materialize, Bogusz would become Cruz Azul's fourth major signing from MLS within a 12-month period, and their second from LAFC specifically. While negotiations are still ongoing, sources indicate that talks are in an advanced stage, with a deal expected to be finalized soon.
Before making his mark in MLS, Bogusz had spells in English football with Leeds United and gained experience in Spain through loan stints at UD Lugrones and UD Ibiza. Meanwhile, LAFC continues their preseason preparations, with their first friendly scheduled against Danish Premier League side FC Nordsjælland on January 28, as the Polish midfielder remains in discussions with Cruz Azul to finalize his potential move to Mexico.
