Alisson Suffers Suspected Concussion During International Duty with Brazil
Liverpool's star goalkeeper Alisson Becker has returned to Merseyside following a concerning head injury sustained during Brazil's World Cup qualifying match against Colombia last Friday. The 32-year-old goalkeeper collided with former Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez in the latter stages of Brazil's 2-1 victory, forcing his substitution.
According to Brazil's team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, "Alisson suffered a head injury and was replaced due to a suspected concussion. We will now follow the CBF protocol, and he will undergo the recommended tests."
Dr. Lasmar provided some reassurance about Alisson's condition, stating, "He is normal, without any complaints. He did not report any fainting or memory loss." Nevertheless, the Brazilian medical team is taking all necessary precautions, with Lasmar adding, "If all the tests are normal, we will proceed and perform a cognitive test. Then we will evaluate the player."
The injury means Alisson will definitely miss Brazil's crucial World Cup qualifier against Argentina on Tuesday. Liverpool's medical staff will now assess their first-choice goalkeeper upon his return to England, with the club hoping he will be available for their upcoming Premier League clash against local rivals Everton at Anfield on April 2.
The timing of Alisson's injury comes at a critical point in Liverpool's season, as Arne Slot's side currently sits 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League table with just nine games remaining in their campaign. The Reds will be eager to have their world-class goalkeeper available as they look to maintain their commanding lead in the title race.
Concussion protocols in football have become increasingly stringent in recent years, so Liverpool will likely take a cautious approach with Alisson's recovery to ensure he is fully fit before returning to action.
