Liverpool Stands Firm: Al-Nassr's Bid for Darwin Nunez Rejected

Liverpool Stands Firm: Al-Nassr's Bid for Darwin Nunez Rejected

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has found himself at the center of transfer speculation after the club rejected a substantial bid from Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, who subsequently turned their attention to Aston Villa's Jhon Duran in a £64 million ($80m) deal.

The Sun reports that Al-Nassr had shown serious interest in acquiring the Uruguayan forward, preparing a significant financial package to tempt him away from Anfield. However, Liverpool maintained a firm stance, making it clear they had no intention of parting ways with their 25-year-old striker.

The situation gained additional attention when Nunez was absent from Liverpool's squad during their Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven. Manager Slot later clarified that the striker's omission was due to a minor illness rather than any transfer-related matters.

Nunez's current season statistics show six goals and four assists across 29 appearances in all competitions. While his performances have been marked by inconsistency, he has delivered crucial moments for the team, notably scoring a dramatic late brace in a 2-0 victory over Brentford two weeks ago.

Following his brief absence, Nunez has returned to training and has traveled with the squad for their upcoming Premier League fixture against Bournemouth, though his place in the starting lineup remains uncertain.

While Liverpool's rejection of Al-Nassr's approach has temporarily quieted transfer speculation, questions about Nunez's long-term future at Anfield persist. The club is expected to evaluate their plans for the forward during the summer transfer window, when potential moves might be reconsidered. For now, Nunez remains focused on contributing to Liverpool's campaign as they compete across four different competitions.
