Manchester City's pursuit of reinforcing their attacking options has taken a significant step forward as they reach a verbal agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for the transfer of prolific forward Omar Marmoush, The Athletic reports.
The Premier League giants had initially faced rejection from the Bundesliga club, as reported by The Athletic on January 15. However, persistent negotiations have now yielded positive results, despite initial differences in valuation. Frankfurt had set an ambitious price tag of €80million (£67.1m; $82m) for their star forward, while City's opening bid was reportedly around €60m (£50.4m; $61.5m).
The 25-year-old Egyptian striker has been in exceptional form since his move from Wolfsburg to Frankfurt in the summer of 2023, demonstrating his clinical finishing ability with an impressive record of 37 goals in 67 appearances. His latest contribution came in Frankfurt's commanding 4-1 victory over Freiburg on Tuesday, where he added to his impressive tally of 15 league goals this season.
City's interest in Marmoush comes at a crucial time as they look to address their limited options in the center-forward position following Julian Alvarez's departure to Atletico Madrid. Currently, the team heavily relies on Erling Haaland, who has started 28 matches across all competitions this season, including all 27 games in the Premier League and Champions League.
The potential acquisition of Marmoush isn't City's only business this transfer window. The club has already secured agreements with Lens for defender Abdukodir Khusanov and with Palmeiras for Vitor Reis, demonstrating their commitment to strengthening their squad.
Currently sitting sixth in the Premier League, Manchester City will look to maintain their momentum when they face Ipswich Town on Sunday, January 19, as they continue their pursuit of domestic success.
