Manchester City are closing in on a significant January transfer as Eintracht Frankfurt confirmed they are in talks regarding a potential €80 million move for star forward Omar Marmoush. The Egyptian international was notably absent from Frankfurt's squad for their Friday night clash against Borussia Dortmund.
The 25-year-old striker has been in exceptional form this season, netting an impressive 20 goals in 26 appearances for the Bundesliga side. Despite featuring and scoring in Frankfurt's first two matches following the winter break, Marmoush now appears set for a move to the Etihad Stadium. According to transfer expert Florian Plettenberg, the deal structure includes a fixed fee of €75 million (£63m/$77m) with an additional €5 million in potential add-ons.
The Premier League champions' pursuit of Marmoush comes during a challenging season where their title defense has faltered significantly. Currently trailing 12 points behind league leaders Liverpool with an extra game played, City's management has responded decisively in the transfer market. The potential Marmoush signing adds to their January recruitment drive, which already includes pending deals for Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov and Palmeiras prospect Vitor Reis.
Frankfurt officially acknowledged the ongoing negotiations through a statement on their social media platform X, stating: "Eintracht Frankfurt is currently in talks with another club regarding a transfer of Omar Marmoush. Therefore, the player is not part of the squad today."
The potential addition of Marmoush could prove valuable for Pep Guardiola's side, particularly given his versatility across the forward line. Capable of operating on either wing, as a second striker, or as a conventional number nine, he could provide crucial support and potentially reduce the workload on City's primary striker Erling Haaland as they look to salvage their season across multiple competitions.
