Manchester City have reached an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for the signing of Egyptian striker Omar Marmoush on a five-year deal, marking their third acquisition of the January transfer window.
The deal came to fruition after initial negotiations faced hurdles, with Frankfurt initially rejecting City's opening bid. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the German club had set a valuation of €80 million (£67.1m/$82m) for the striker, while City's initial proposal was around €60m (£50.4m/$61.5m).
Marmoush, who joined Frankfurt from Wolfsburg in summer 2023, has proven himself to be a formidable force in the Bundesliga. The Egyptian forward has demonstrated remarkable efficiency in front of goal, accumulating an impressive tally of 37 goals in just 67 appearances for Frankfurt. His current season form has been particularly noteworthy, with 15 league goals to his name, including a recent strike in Frankfurt's commanding 4-1 victory over Freiburg.
The acquisition comes at a crucial time for the Premier League champions, who have been seeking to bolster their attacking options following Julian Alvarez's departure to Atletico Madrid last summer. The signing will provide much-needed support for Erling Haaland, who has been carrying the goalscoring responsibilities alone, starting all 27 of City's matches across the Premier League and Champions League this season.
This transfer represents City's latest move in what has been an active January window. The club has already invested over £60m ($73m) in strengthening their defensive lineup with the additions of young center-backs Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov. These strategic signings demonstrate City's commitment to both immediate success and long-term planning as they prepare for the latter half of the season, with their next challenge coming against Ipswich in the Premier League this Sunday.
