Man United eyeing Mateta as cheaper alternative to Gyokeres

Man United eyeing Mateta as cheaper alternative to Gyokeres

Manchester United have been informed of Jean-Philippe Mateta's price tag with the Crystal Palace star available for half the price of Viktor Gyokeres.

Manchester United are actively seeking attacking reinforcements for their squad, and have already engaged in discussions with Jean-Philippe Mateta's representatives. According to The Mirror, Crystal Palace has set a £40 million ($52m) asking price for the French striker, which presents a considerably more economical option compared to Viktor Gyokeres, who has an £80m ($103m) release clause at Sporting CP.

The financial aspect is particularly significant for United given their current economic situation. The club's substantial debt has limited their ability to make high-profile signings, forcing them to consider more cost-effective alternatives. Mateta's lower price tag makes him an attractive option for the Red Devils who need to strengthen their attacking line without compromising their financial stability.

Ruben Amorim's squad has been eyeing Gyokeres as a top target, but Mateta's qualities could provide a practical solution to United's offensive challenges. The Crystal Palace forward is known for his ability to hold up the ball and bring teammates into play, skills that would align well with Amorim's tactical system.

United's recent attacking signings have failed to meet expectations. Rasmus Hojlund, who joined Old Trafford for £72m in August 2023, has scored only two Premier League goals this season and faces increasing pressure from his manager. Similarly, Joshua Zirkzee has managed just six goals in 41 appearances across all competitions, highlighting the team's offensive struggles.

While Manchester United considers strengthening their attack with Mateta at a more affordable price, their transfer strategy will heavily depend on player sales. The club needs to balance their financial books before making any significant acquisitions, making outgoing transfers crucial to their summer plans.
