Manchester United's squad is in need of a significant overhaul, with club legend Rio Ferdinand calling for the immediate departure of three players he believes are spreading "cancerous, bad energy" throughout the team.
The Red Devils are experiencing one of their worst seasons in recent memory, currently languishing in 13th place in the Premier League table. Their poor form was highlighted by a recent 3-1 home defeat to Brighton, prompting coach Ruben Amorim to describe this United team as the worst in the club's history.
Among those linked with potential exits are Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia. Rashford, who hasn't featured under Amorim for over a month, has attracted interest from several European clubs including AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Barcelona. However, his high wages could complicate any potential loan move. Brazilian winger Antony appears to be closing in on a temporary switch to Real Betis, while Malacia is also reportedly nearing the exit door.
Speaking on his podcast, former United defender Ferdinand didn't mince words about the situation. "I think Antony's going, someone said to me, Real Betis or somewhere like that. Just get them out man! Sorry, no, I'm just being honest," Ferdinand stated. He emphasized the importance of removing unsettled players from the squad, warning that their negative attitude can spread throughout the team: "The more these type of guys are around, where there's just a bad noise, they all want to go, they're all happy to go - let's just get them out. Let's start afresh. You know what it's like, if there's people who are unsettled in there and it's not going to plan and they're not happy, it spreads. It's like a cancerous, bad energy."
The club is now expected to focus on trimming Amorim's squad before the transfer window closes, with several outgoing deals potentially in the pipeline. These moves could prove crucial in United's attempts to reverse their fortunes and rebuild team morale for the remainder of the season.
