Manchester United has completed the signing of Danish defender Patrick Dorgu from Lecce in a deal worth £25 million, with potential add-ons of £4.1 million. The 20-year-old talent has committed to a five-and-a-half-year contract with the Red Devils.
Dorgu, who joined Lecce at the youth level in 2022, has already amassed 57 appearances for the Italian club since making his senior debut last season. His rapid rise through the ranks culminated in his international debut for Denmark against Switzerland in September, where he marked the occasion with a goal on his first touch in a 2-0 Nations League victory.
"I am incredibly proud to be able to call myself a Manchester United player - this is a very special day for my whole family," Dorgu expressed following the announcement. The young defender showed particular enthusiasm about working with manager Ruben Amorim, citing the coach's vision for the team and the club's future as "incredibly exciting."
Manchester United's technical director Jason Wilcox praised Dorgu's potential, highlighting his strong defensive and attacking attributes, adaptability, and work rate. "Patrick is a really exciting talent... At the age of just 20, we know he will continue to develop under the guidance of our excellent coaching team," Wilcox stated.
Dorgu becomes the second defensive reinforcement at Old Trafford during this transfer window, following the arrival of England Under-19s international Ayden Heaven from Arsenal.
