Manchester United loanee Antony has found his scoring touch in Spain, netting for the third consecutive game as Real Betis secured a commanding 3-0 victory over nine-man Real Sociedad on Sunday at the Benito Villamarín.
The Brazilian winger, who joined Betis on loan in January, showcased his quality with a spectacular volley from inside the box to break the deadlock against La Real. His impact didn't stop there, as he later provided an assist for Marc Roca's goal and won a penalty, though Giovani Lo Celso failed to convert from the spot.
Since his arrival in Seville, the 24-year-old has made an immediate impact, earning Player of the Match honors in all three of his LaLiga appearances against Athletic Club, Celta Vigo, and Real Sociedad. He has also impressed in European competition, performing well against Gent in the Europa Conference League.
Speaking to DAZN about his remarkable form, Antony attributed his success to his happiness at his new club. "I think the most important thing is to be happy," he said. "I am happy here. Things are coming off naturally. I am really happy to score and help the team. I don't have any goal targets, I am just working hard. I am focused, happy and enjoying every day."
The former Ajax star has integrated seamlessly into Betis's revamped attack, operating behind January signing Cucho Hernández, who arrived from MLS side Columbus Crew, alongside Isco and promising youngster Jesús Rodriguez. Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini expressed his delight with the forward line, stating in a news conference: "I have always said that teams have to work as a collective, but it's individuals who can decide matches. Antony has started so well. And on top of that he's scoring goals -- it wasn't easy the goal he scored today, eh!"
While Antony remains United's second most expensive signing at £80 million ($97.3m), behind only Paul Pogba, his performances have already caught the attention of Betis's hierarchy. CEO Ramón Alarcón has openly discussed the possibility of extending the Brazilian's stay, saying "Why not?" when asked about the prospect.
Betis now face consecutive away fixtures, traveling to Gent for their Conference League tie before a LaLiga clash with Getafe. They will then host current league leaders Real Madrid on March 2, where Antony will look to continue his impressive run of form.
