AC Milan manager Sergio Conceicao has strongly denied reports of a rift with USMNT star Christian Pulisic, dismissing the claims as "lies" following the team's UEFA Champions League exit against Feyenoord.
The Portuguese manager addressed the media ahead of Milan's weekend match against Torino, providing clarity on both Pulisic's fitness status and the alleged tension between them. Conceicao revealed that while Pulisic is available for selection, the American international isn't yet capable of completing a full 90-minute match.
"Pulisic doesn't have 90 minutes in his legs," Conceicao explained during the press conference. "We are working on it. At least for the style of play I want, he needs to be intense for the full 90 minutes."
The fitness concerns stem from a muscle issue Pulisic encountered in January, which forced him to miss the January 18 fixture against Juventus. Since then, the American's playing time has been carefully managed, with two starts and two substitute appearances in Serie A action.
Addressing the rumors of discord that emerged after Milan's Champions League elimination, Conceicao expressed frustration with the media narrative. "I keep reading lies and lies in the press," he stated firmly. "I don't like this. I am in front of you every three or four days. If you have any doubts I'll tell you, I am upfront."
The manager went on to discuss the challenges of modern team management, particularly regarding social media's influence on players. "Lies hurt, players today are active in social media. It is not easy to manage the group with also things to improve on the pitch. Sometimes I also have to manage things that do not belong to me, but it is my group and I have to manage it."
Despite the fitness concerns, Pulisic has been a key contributor for the Rossoneri this season, recording six goals and six assists in Serie A alone. Across all competitions in the 2024-25 season, the American has accumulated 17 goal contributions, highlighting his importance to the team when fully fit.
The situation adds another layer of complexity to Milan's campaign as they prepare for their upcoming Serie A clash with Torino, where they'll aim to maintain their competitive position in the league standings.
