Neymar's Homecoming: Santos Return Could Include Ownership Stake

Neymar's Homecoming: Santos Return Could Include Ownership Stake

Neymar's potential homecoming to Santos is taking shape as negotiations with Al-Hilal are reportedly nearing completion. In an intriguing development, L'Equipe reports that the deal could see both Neymar and his father, Neymar da Silva Senior, acquire a stake in the Brazilian club through an investment fund, facilitating the star forward's return to his boyhood team.

The Brazilian superstar's stint at Al-Hilal has been far from successful since his €90 million (£77m/$98m) transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023. Having made only seven appearances for the Saudi club, Neymar's time has been marred by injuries, failing to live up to the enormous investment made in bringing him to the Middle East.

The 32-year-old's journey began at Santos, where he established himself as one of football's most exciting talents. During his initial spell with the Brazilian side, Neymar showcased his exceptional abilities, netting an impressive 136 goals in 225 appearances before making his high-profile move to Barcelona in 2013 at the age of 21.

While Neymar's contract with Al-Hilal is set to expire this summer, Santos, currently competing in Serie B, appears eager to expedite the transfer in the January window rather than waiting for his contract to run its course. This potential early move suggests both parties are keen to reunite, marking what could be a dramatic return to where it all began for the Brazilian superstar.

This transfer would not only represent a significant moment in Neymar's career but also potentially transform Santos's future, with the unique arrangement of player and father gaining ownership stakes in the club as part of the deal. The development signals a new chapter in the relationship between one of Brazil's most famous footballing sons and the club that launched him to stardom.
