Barcelona's rising star Pedri has committed his long-term future to the Catalan giants, signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2030. The 22-year-old midfielder's previous contract was set to expire in 2026, but Barcelona prioritized securing his services for an extended period.
Since joining Barcelona from Las Palmas as a teenager, Pedri has proven himself to be an invaluable asset to the team. His remarkable debut season saw him make 52 appearances, followed by representing Spain in both the European Championship and Olympic Games that same summer.
Despite facing injury setbacks in the subsequent three seasons, Pedri has found renewed stability under current manager Hansi Flick. The German coach has implemented a different approach to managing the young midfielder's playing time, which has yielded positive results.
"We change a little bit the philosophy with Pedri this season," Flick explained during a recent news conference. "We keep him playing because it's better for our fitness, our idea, our philosophy about fitness, it's better like this with him." The coach emphasized that instead of managing Pedri's minutes from the start, they now focus on potential adjustments towards the end of matches.
The Spanish international's development continues to impress, as he approaches a milestone of 200 appearances for Barcelona. His influence extends beyond club football, having earned 30 caps for the Spanish national team and playing a crucial role in Spain's European Championship victory last summer.
This new contract not only secures Pedri's future at Barcelona but also demonstrates the club's commitment to building around their young talents. Having overcome his previous injury concerns, Pedri has established himself as a fundamental piece in Flick's tactical setup, contributing significantly to the team's performances this season.
