Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has issued a stark warning to the club's hierarchy regarding the urgent need for reinforcements during the January transfer window, as his squad grapples with a severe injury crisis.
The North London club is currently facing a significant setback with eight key first-team players sidelined. The list of unavailable players includes Dominic Solanke, Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, and Wilson Odobert ahead of their crucial Premier League encounter with Leicester City this weekend. While Pape Sarr, Djed Spence, Sergio Reguilon, and Yves Bissouma might make the matchday squad, their participation in the starting lineup remains uncertain.
The situation has become particularly concerning for Spurs, who find themselves struggling in 15th place in the Premier League, having managed only seven victories in 22 matches this season. The Australian manager didn't mince words when addressing the media about the club's transfer situation.
"I'm not out there trying to find opportunities for the club, that's not my role at this time. There isn't time to do it," Postecoglou stated frankly. "I don't think I'm stating anything other than the obvious and for me to come here and say something else would be disingenuous." The 59-year-old tactician further emphasized the gravity of the situation, adding, "This playing group needs help, there's no doubt about that. We're sort of playing with fire by not bringing anyone in, but the flip side of that is the club is trying to change that situation."
The injury-hit Spurs are set to face Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday, followed by a Europa League fixture against IF Elfsborg on January 30, as they attempt to navigate through this challenging period with their depleted squad.
