Real Madrid's star winger Vinicius Jr. has been slapped with a two-game domestic suspension by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) in the aftermath of his dramatic sending-off during Madrid's 2-1 victory over Valencia.
Despite facing the consequences in domestic competition, the Brazilian international will still be available for the upcoming Spanish Super Cup tournament.
The incident occurred in the 79th minute of the match when Madrid was down 1-0. Vinicius Jr. was shown a straight red card following a heated confrontation with Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski. The dismissal, however, didn't derail Madrid's remarkable comeback, as Luka Modric found the equalizer in the 85th minute before Jude Bellingham delivered the winning strike in stoppage time.
In the immediate aftermath of receiving the red card, Vinicius displayed visible signs of frustration, requiring intervention from teammate Antonio Rüdiger and goalkeeping coach Luis Llopis to prevent him from confronting referee Cesar Soto Grado. The Brazilian later expressed regret for his actions.
Real Madrid's manager Carlo Ancelotti has taken issue with the referee's decision, confirming that the club intends to challenge the red card through an official appeal.
As a result of the suspension, Vinicius will be forced to sit out upcoming LaLiga fixtures against Las Palmas and Real Valladolid. However, the suspension won't affect his availability for Madrid's Spanish Super Cup semifinal showdown with Mallorca, set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
