Real Valladolid made the decision to part ways with manager Diego Cocca on Monday after a dismal run of five consecutive defeats left the club languishing at the bottom of the LaLiga standings. The Argentine coach's tenure lasted just eight games, marking one of the shortest managerial spells in the club's recent history.
Cocca, who took the helm on December 14 with a contract extending until the season's end, managed to secure only one victory during his brief stint at the club. The team's reserve team coach, Álvaro Rubio, has been appointed as interim manager, marking his second spell in temporary charge this season.
The decision to terminate Cocca's contract came in the wake of a humiliating 4-0 home defeat to Sevilla on Sunday. Under his leadership, Valladolid endured six league defeats and suffered an embarrassing exit from the Copa del Rey, falling to third-tier side Ourense CF in the round of 32 last month.
This marks the second managerial change for Valladolid this season. The club previously dismissed Paulo Pezzolano in November following a crushing 5-0 home defeat to Atlético Madrid. Pezzolano's record showed just two victories in 15 league games. During the transition period, Rubio temporarily took charge for three games, securing two victories before Cocca's appointment.
The situation looks increasingly dire for Valladolid, who earned promotion last season under Pezzolano's guidance. With just 15 points from 24 games, they find themselves eight points behind 17th-placed Las Palmas and deep in the relegation zone. The team faces another challenging fixture this weekend as they travel to face Athletic Club on Sunday.
