San Antonio FC fans take their passion to new heights by painting player tunnel as yearly tradition
For the fifth consecutive season, San Antonio FC has continued its heartwarming tradition of inviting season ticket members to paint the player tunnel at Toyota Field, creating a personalized passageway for players as they make their way to the pitch. The club recently shared images on social media showcasing the newly decorated tunnel, highlighting the artistic contributions and supportive messages from dedicated fans.
This unique tradition goes far beyond simple decoration, representing the profound connection between San Antonio FC and its loyal fanbase. Taylor Knuckles, associate manager of membership services, explained the process: "We have a clear walk out tunnel where obviously home side comes from one, away side comes from the other. We painted it all black as a canvas and we provide paint in the colors of our crest which is red, silver and white to our members to go in and paint whatever."
What began as an innovative community initiative has evolved into a key annual event that season ticket holders eagerly anticipate. The tunnel painting project, now celebrating its fifth year, stands as a testament to San Antonio FC's dedication to fan engagement and community building. This tradition has grown alongside the club itself, ensuring players feel the unwavering support of their fans before every home match.
The artwork adorning the tunnel features heartfelt messages and unique designs created by the fans themselves. Adding to the community spirit, newly signed players also participate in the painting activities alongside supporters, further strengthening the bond between the team and its fanbase.
The timing couldn't be better for this annual tradition as San Antonio FC is currently enjoying a superb start to their 2025 USL Championship season. The team currently sits atop the Western Conference table and is preparing to face Lexington SC on March 29, followed by a home match against Phoenix Rising FC on April 6, where players will once again walk through their fan-decorated tunnel to the cheers of supporters.
