In a frightening moment during Wednesday's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur collapsed unexpectedly on the field, leading to immediate medical intervention and hospitalization.
The Uruguayan international fell unchallenged while attempting to connect with a corner kick, prompting medical staff to rush onto the pitch and administer oxygen before he was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou later provided a positive update on the player's condition. "All good. He's back home and he's fine. He is feeling good," Postecoglou confirmed. "Thankfully, it looks like a concussion and nothing more than it."
Following Premier League concussion protocols, Bentancur faces a mandatory two-week recovery period. "Obviously, you follow the protocols now and it's a couple of weeks where you have to make sure everything is okay," the manager explained.
The midfielder's absence will impact several crucial fixtures, including:
- FA Cup third round against Tamworth
- Premier League clash with Arsenal
- League match against Everton
- Europa League fixture at Hoffenheim
This setback comes at a challenging time for Tottenham, who are competing across multiple tournaments. The club will need to rely on their squad depth to maintain momentum during Bentancur's recovery period.
