Tom Brady's Birmingham City are on track to make League One history this season, as the club continues its impressive march toward promotion under the NFL legend's ownership.
The Blues, who faced relegation from the Championship last season during Brady's initial involvement with the board, have undergone a remarkable transformation. Following substantial summer investment aimed at securing an immediate return to the second tier, the team has established itself as the dominant force in League One.
Birmingham's campaign has been nothing short of exceptional, suffering just two defeats while climbing to the summit of the league table. Their commanding performance has left other ambitious clubs, including the Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney-owned Wrexham, trailing in their wake.
With 63 points already secured, Birmingham City is not just eyeing promotion but potentially setting new records in the process. EFL pundit Don Goodman, who brings regional expertise from his playing days with Wolves, West Brom, and Walsall, believes the club could achieve something extraordinary this season.
"For me, I believe Birmingham City are trying to replicate what Ipswich Town have done by creating a Championship-ready squad in League One," Goodman told OLBG. "If they were promoted this instant I think, without a doubt, that they would survive. I don't think anybody will be able to do what Ipswich did again but I don't see why Birmingham City wouldn't finish in the top half."
Goodman's optimism extends to record-breaking territory: "Chris Davies is doing a very good job and Birmingham City will win the league. I have previously gone on record to say I think they will break League One records and they need 40 points from 19 games to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers' 103-point record. You know what, I think they'll do it."
The team's ambitions aren't limited to league success alone. Birmingham has also reached the semi-finals of the Football League Trophy, adding another potential piece of silverware to their season's objectives. Their next challenge comes Tuesday when they host Cambridge, with an opportunity to extend their lead at the top to seven points.
Under Chris Davies' leadership and Brady's backing, Birmingham City appears poised not just for promotion, but for a historic season that could set new standards in English football's third tier.
