Thomas Tuchel's first England squad includes surprising call-up for Dan Burn, as Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson return for World Cup qualifying matches against Albania and Latvia. The German coach, who officially took charge of the Three Lions on January 1, has named a 26-man squad for the upcoming fixtures at Wembley Stadium.
Newcastle defender Burn receives his first international call-up at the age of 32. The versatile defender, who can play at both center-half and left-back, is currently preparing for Carabao Cup final duty with his club on Sunday.
Marcus Rashford has been recalled to the national team after making an impressive start to his loan spell at Aston Villa following his January departure from Manchester United. The forward, who has 60 senior caps for England, joins prolific Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane in the attacking department, with Kane likely to retain the captain's armband.
Kyle Walker, who moved from Manchester City to AC Milan on loan during the January transfer window, is included in the defensive options. Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, now playing for Ajax, also returns to the squad.
Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, who previously helped England win the European U21 Championship, earns selection after an impressive season with the Clarets in their push for Premier League promotion. Chelsea defender Reece James and Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke are also named in Tuchel's first squad.
Several key players miss out through injury, including Manchester United's Harry Maguire, Manchester City's Jack Grealish, Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold, Manchester United's Luke Shaw, Arsenal's Bukayo Saka, and Manchester City's John Stones. Chelsea forward Noni Madueke, Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, and Newcastle defender Lewis Hall are also unavailable.
Notable omissions include Nottingham Forest pair Morgan Gibbs-White and Callum Hudson-Odoi, despite their impressive form for the top four-chasing side, Tottenham playmaker James Maddison, and former Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who now plays alongside Cristiano Ronaldo for Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League.
Tuchel, who previously managed Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, has signed an 18-month contract with England through to the end of next summer's World Cup finals in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. His reign begins with home matches against Albania on March 21, followed by Latvia three days later, with Serbia and Andorra completing England's qualification Group K opponents.
