Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has admitted uncertainty over his future at Anfield, stating he has "no idea" whether he will remain with the club beyond the current season.
The 33-year-old Dutch defender is among three star players facing contract expirations in June, alongside Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Despite ongoing discussions with the club, van Dijk expressed genuine uncertainty following Liverpool's Champions League elimination by Paris Saint-Germain.
"I still have no idea at the moment. Genuinely," van Dijk stated after the penalty shootout defeat to PSG. "At the moment I don't even know what will happen next year. If anyone says they do know, they are lying to your face."
The captain acknowledged that negotiations are taking place behind the scenes but offered no clear indication of progress: "Everyone knows there are some conversations behind the scenes but that is about it."
This revelation adds to growing concerns about Liverpool's core players, with Salah having previously indicated in January that this would be his final season at the club, claiming they were "far away from any progress" on a new contract. The Egyptian forward was visibly emotional after the PSG defeat, breaking down in tears.
Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold, who has reportedly attracted interest from Real Madrid, has maintained a more private stance on his future. The 26-year-old right-back previously stated his contract negotiations would not be "played out in public." Unfortunately, Alexander-Arnold is now expected to miss Sunday's Carabao Cup final against Newcastle after sustaining an injury against PSG.
When questioned whether discussions about his future had been temporarily suspended to focus on Liverpool's sporting ambitions, van Dijk firmly responded: "It is not on hold. Nothing on hold." He emphasized his commitment to the remaining season, adding, "Listen, there are 10 games to go [in the Premier League] and that is my full focus. If there is news, you guys will know it. I don't even know myself."
Despite these contract uncertainties, Liverpool currently sits 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League and has a Carabao Cup final opportunity ahead, though their European campaign has now ended with the last-16 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
