Manchester City captain Kyle Walker has made a significant move to Italian powerhouse AC Milan, joining the Serie A club on loan for the remainder of the season. The transfer, which includes an option for a permanent deal, was confirmed after Walker successfully completed his medical examination on Thursday.
The 34-year-old England defender, who has been a cornerstone of Manchester City's success, will wear the number 32 shirt at Milan and could make his Serie A debut this Sunday when the Rossoneri host Parma at the San Siro. Walker joins a growing contingent of English players in Milan, including Fikayo Tomori, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Tammy Abraham.
Following the announcement, Walker expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Manchester City through an emotional statement on Instagram. "Signing for the club had been a dream come true," he wrote, extending special thanks to the coaching staff, kit men, and backroom staff for their tireless support. He particularly acknowledged manager Pep Guardiola's role in his development, stating, "Thank you for believing in me and working so hard to bring me here in 2017. Together, we've celebrated 17 trophies, and your guidance has helped shape me into the player I am today."
Since his £50m transfer from Tottenham in 2017, Walker has been an integral part of City's dominance in English football, making 319 appearances and contributing to six Premier League titles under Guardiola's leadership. His impressive career at the Etihad also includes being part of the historic treble-winning side of 2022-23, while accumulating 93 caps for England.
The defender's last appearance for City came on January 4 against West Ham, after which he informed Guardiola of his desire to leave the club. Manchester City's official statement wished Walker "the very best of luck for the rest of the season." The announcement of Walker's departure coincided with City's confirmation of signing Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush from Frankfurt in a £59m deal.
